The major issues of the last few days were what costume Julia would wear trick or treating and where, after all, we would be on Halloween. An interstate motel would not answer very well on either count. So we extended our stay in Durango for an extra day and after much discussion, Julia chose to be a cat with pink ears and tail, black shirt and pants, and a black mask, all of which paraphernalia was fortunately available at a single costume store in town. The yarn shop next to our bed and breakfast supplied the required large safety pin and a cotton gift bag for the treats (and even an initial Snickers to start things off on the right foot).

We are in the midst of the historical section of the city, with residential streets a few blocks away. So with hundreds of others we worked the lengths of 3rd and 4th Avenues and Julia collected her booty. Finally, the bag beginning to weigh down her arm, she announced that Halloween was over and we went back to our room to look over the results and sample where appropriate. Although far from home, Julia pronounced the event a success.
