Every American taxpayer should visit the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) near the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson. Here are stored decommissioned military planes, approximately 2,500 of them at any given time. From huge cargo planes, B-52 bombers, to fleets of all sort of fighters and special mission aircraft, they sit row upon row in the desert sun. Most are wrapped up to prevent environmental damage; many of them could be flown back to service with a day or two of maintenance. We tried to do the math of how much money is sitting here on the ground – obviously many billions of dollars. We took a bus tour requiring all sorts of security just in case we had evil intent. But we only wished to learn more about how our money is spent.
