After several days in the center of Toronto, Julia said that she wanted to go to the countryside. This created the perfect opportunity to go northwest of the city to the McMichael Gallery of Canadian Art, in Kleinburg, ON. This independent museum has a large holding of the Group of Seven – Canadian realist painters from the first half of the 20th Century—as well as a collection of First Nations materials. The painting above is by Tom Thompson who was the mentor to several members of the Group and the small building is his studio, which was brought to the grounds. The day we visited the gallery sponsored a children and art exhibit that included opportunities to contribute stories and pictures to a notebook. Julia was an enthusiastic participant.
