Our final two days in Arizona were spent along the Colorado River at Cattail Cove State Park. Downstream 15 miles is Parker Dam, which created the massive storage system called Lake Havasu. The dam provides water and electricity for the Los Angeles area almost 300 miles away. So in a barren desert consisting mostly of gravel hills and canyons here is a watery lushness with deciduous trees and jet skis. Lake Havasu City lies 10 miles north with its London Bridge and endless condos. We were far enough away to have brilliant stars in the cool desert sky. We were also something of a curiosity being the lone tent among the RVs. But perhaps because we stood out, we found this to be the friendliest stopping point of our entire trip so far. Even the ducks made us welcome.
