Chuck Cramer, a close friend of Marty’s Dad, invited us to the open house of the Tucson Soaring Club. Because of the landscape and desert thermals, this is a prime area for gliding. The club has 30 or so sailplanes, mostly owned by members, and the all-important tow plane, owned by the club. It was a busy place. Planes were taking off and landing ever few minutes and those fortunate enough to have reserved in advance were taken for rides in the two-seaters. These planes rise thousands of feet on the warm air currents and can travel for hundreds of miles. Great fun!
